More Eternia
I just got done being an apologist for Eternia again on a friend’s blog (to the point where I feel like a spammer). I just got the link to this youtube video today. It features several live highlights from her “Ladies First” show in Brooklyn with Rah Digga (who also shows up in this vid). Check it out. If you’re interested in more, check out this recent interview. She talks about the difference between being a woman on stage and a woman walking down the street. Here is another great interview with her from about a year back where she talks about her Christian faith among a lot of other things. Okay. I think that’s enough for tonight. Enjoy
Eternia
“The only thing I know is she’s from Canada and she’s dope!” says a voice in the intro to Eternia’s most recent effort with producer Moss: At Last. And the sentiments couldn’t be truer for me. I really know nothing about the Canadian music scene. I thought Canadians only listened to Nickelback. But I’m now sure that is not the case. And I am sure it has more to do with proximity/geography, pervasive bad music everywhere and my limited knowledge of the scene up north than it does musical palates of Canadians. And she is definitely dope. She goes in hard over some pretty amazing hard core beats from producer Moss (who I had not heard of before either). She raps with intensity and vulnerability. She gives several insightful glimpses into her soul, her family, romantic life and her relationship with Bacardi while also spitting some much deserved bragadocious lines about her skill and spare but sharp lines about being light/white and female. Here are a few of my favorite tracks from the album starting with the professionally produced video for her Janis Joplin sampling song “Goodbye.” Enjoy:
